Most coffee is roasted in drums where the chaff (the husk on each bean) burns alongside the coffee — creating that bitter edge most cups have. We use air roasting, which suspends the beans on hot air and separates the chaff cleanly. The result: the actual flavor of the bean, not the burn.

Common Questions

How fresh is the coffee when I receive it?
Every bag is roasted in small batches, in our café, and shipped within a few days of roasting. Most subscribers receive coffee 5–7 days from roast date — comparable to or fresher than what you'd get buying from a grocery store coffee aisle.
Can I change my subscription?
Yes, anytime. From your account on hartfordcoffee.com, you can change frequency, swap to a different coffee (for Choose Your Coffee subscribers), update your grind, change shipping address, pause for a vacation, skip a single delivery, or cancel entirely. All without calling us.
What if I don't like a coffee I receive?
Subscribe to "Choose Your Coffee" to pick exactly what you want every time. For the rotating subscriptions (Flavored, Blends, Single Origin), email us at theguys@hartfordcoffee.com and we'll make it right — replacement coffee, refund, or switch to a different subscription type.
How much does shipping cost?
Flat-rate USPS Ground Advantage, typically $5–7 depending on bag size. We don't mark up shipping. We ship from St. Louis, MO so delivery times are 2–5 business days for most of the U.S.
How does the 10% savings work?
Subscription orders are automatically 10% off our standard prices for the same coffees. No code needed — it's built into the subscription price. Cancel anytime and the discount stays applied to your final order.
Are subscriptions available for delivery outside the US?
Currently we ship only within the United States. Sign up for our email list and we'll let you know when international shipping is available.
