Description

Roast Level: Medium Dark / Full City

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee — and Yirgacheffe is its crown jewel. Grown at elevations above 6,000 feet in the forested highlands of southern Ethiopia, these beans develop an extraordinary complexity that has made Yirgacheffe one of the most sought-after single origin coffees in the world.

Tasting Notes: Medium body with a captivating floral aroma — think jasmine and bergamot. The cup opens with bright, juicy citrus notes (lemon, bergamot) and evolves into a sweet, tea-like finish with hints of stone fruit. The acidity is vibrant but elegant, never sharp.

Best Brewed As: Pour-over or Chemex — these methods let the floral and citrus notes shine. This coffee is also beautiful as a light cold brew. We recommend a medium-fine grind and water just off the boil (200–205°F).

Why You’ll Love It: If you think coffee is “just coffee,” Ethiopia Yirgacheffe will change your mind. The floral complexity is unlike anything a flavored coffee can replicate — it’s entirely natural, developed through altitude, soil, and careful processing. First-time specialty coffee drinkers are consistently amazed by how different and delightful this cup is.

Origin: Yirgacheffe, Gedeo Zone, Ethiopia
Process: Washed (wet-processed)
Altitude: 1,700–2,200 meters above sea level
Roasted Fresh: Small-batch roasted daily in St. Louis. Your bag ships within 7 days of roasting.

Why Air-Roasted

Why Air-Roasted

At Hartford Coffee, we air-roast every bean in small batches right here in St. Louis. Air roasting suspends the beans on a bed of hot air, roasting them evenly from every angle without the scorching or smoky char of traditional drum roasters. Small batches mean we can dial in each origin to bring out its unique character — so you get cleaner flavor, brighter acidity, and a smoother cup, every time.

Why your order comes in one-pound bags

However much you order, we pack it in one-pound bags — order two pounds and you get two of them, order five and you get five. There’s a reason we do it this way.

Every bag has a zipper and a one-way valve. The valve lets the gases from fresh-roasted coffee escape without letting air back in, and the zipper seals it up tight after you open it. So you only ever break the seal on one pound at a time. The rest sits sealed and fresh until you’re ready for it.

Most places ship one big bag. You open it, and the clock starts on the whole thing. Ours keeps the coffee you haven’t gotten to yet tasting like it just came off the roaster — because as far as the coffee knows, it did.
