About This Coffee

Hartford Coffee’s Bavarian Chocolate is a flavored coffee that does exactly what it promises — it delivers the full, indulgent experience of Bavarian dark chocolate in every cup. Roasted to a medium-dark Full City level, the base coffee brings a solid, smooth body that carries the natural chocolate flavoring with depth and without any artificial edge. This is the coffee for anyone who wants dessert in a mug.

Flavor Profile

From the first sip, you’ll notice the deep, dark chocolate up front — think bittersweet European chocolate, not sweet milk chocolate. It settles into a smooth, slightly roasty finish with a clean aftertaste. No bitterness, no artificial syrupiness. Just chocolate.

Brewing Recommendations

Bavarian Chocolate is forgiving and delicious across brew methods. Here’s how to get the most out of it:

Drip / Automatic Brewer (Recommended for Beginners)
Use a ratio of 1:15 (coffee to water). Brew at 195-205°F. The chocolate notes bloom beautifully in a standard drip — great black or with a splash of cream.

French Press
Coarse grind | 4-minute steep | 1:12 ratio. Full immersion deepens the chocolate character and adds a velvety, almost mocha-like body. Exceptional with steamed oat milk.

Pour Over (Chemex or V60)
Medium-fine grind | 3-4 minute total brew time | 1:16 ratio. Produces a cleaner, brighter cup that highlights the chocolate’s nuance. A lighter touch of cream makes this sing.

Cold Brew
Coarse grind | 16-18 hour steep in cold water | 1:8 ratio (concentrate). Makes a naturally sweet, chocolatey cold brew concentrate. Dilute 1:1 with water or milk over ice.

Why You’ll Love It

If you love chocolate and you love coffee, Bavarian Chocolate is the obvious choice. It’s the perfect dessert coffee, the ideal after-dinner pour, or a comforting everyday cup on a cold morning. No sugar required — the chocolate flavoring delivers sweetness naturally. Pairs exceptionally with biscotti, dark chocolate, or whipped cream for a full café-style experience at home.

Why Air-Roasted

Why Air-Roasted

At Hartford Coffee, we air-roast every bean in small batches right here in St. Louis. Air roasting suspends the beans on a bed of hot air, roasting them evenly from every angle without the scorching or smoky char of traditional drum roasters. Small batches mean we can dial in each origin to bring out its unique character — so you get cleaner flavor, brighter acidity, and a smoother cup, every time.

This is such a decadently good coffee roast. If you love chocolate, then this is a blend for you. Just brewing it makes the whole house amazing, but this is also one of the only coffees that doesn’t need anything added to it for perfection. I normally don’t like the taste of coffee itself, but this is so good that it’s worth scrapping the sugar and cream.
